[Zope] restart from the control pannel ... not restarting

I've installed Zope 2.6.0 from source on a linux box (SuSE 7.2). Everything
runs fine except it does not restart from the control panel. I'm sure this
must be some privilege issue.  I am starting Zope as the root user and
running Zope (./start -u brad) as just a normal user.  

Any ideas why it might not be restarting automatically?  Is there a log file
I can go to to see what exceptions might have been raised??
