Hi,

I use Mandrake 9.1 (celeron-950, 128MB ram, XFS filesystem). It is pretty
fast and cca 2-100x faster than on Windows NT (2x xeon 1G, 1GB ram).

At Windows I was see same behaviors as you at redhat.

If you are not a linux's religions fanatic, try mandrake.
