Stefano,

First, change your ZSQL method to..

     SELECT COUNT(*) AS TOTAL FROM NAMES

Next, reference the result of your ZSQL method in your DTML document as 
follows..

   <dtml-in myZSQLmethod>
    <dtml-var TOTAL>
   </dtml-in>
