I remember there used to be patches or the like for apache 1.x, but I 
think there were never ported for 2.x.

If you don't really need to have apache in front, another approach might 
be to use pound (well, in theory, there seems to be a little problem in 
zope or python regarding header processing, but it's very simple to get 
around this).
