I don't recommend using 2.4
Python 2.4 is not a supported version for Zope 2.7.4.

yes, i stumbled upon this too.

i'm compiling python 2.4 right now and will have a try with this; another 
option would be to try a self-compiled 2.3.5 version (i've been using the
one 
packaged with debian sid till now)
