OK ... But surely, there must be some way to get Zope/Plone working on Solaris!

I think we have Windows Server 2003 box I can try :)

Simple advise: don't use Solaris unless you really really have to. 
Especially not for an app server, but even running a storage server will cause you unnecessary pain...
