You must have misinterpreted me:

  I can assure you that the ZODB is not responsible for the
  product refresh breakage.

I cannot tell you what it responsible (as we do not yet use Zope 2.9)
but I am almost convinced that Five is to blame.

I believe that the problem could be fixed -- but probably, Five has
to change for this.
