It's also possible that, when using Borland's stuff, some subtlety of
sockets doesn't work "as expected" (meaning something doesn't work in one of
the ways we've seen on Linux, or Win9x under MSVC, or WinNT+ under MSVC, all
of which exhibit maddeningly different endcase behaviors).  I agree that
trying 2.2.2 first is the best next step.
