If my analysis holds up, a convenience method with a shorter name would 
be, er, convenient. Instead of

<a tal:attributes="href python:request.getApplicationURL(path_only=True) 
+ '/@@/z3logo.gif'">

we could have the shorter and easier to read

<a tal:attributes="href python:request.path('/@@/z3logo.gif')">

for instance.
