You can only truncate at CSS measures, as there are points, pixels,
cm, em's. This can be in the middle of a char of course.
I did not say its elegant, but at least there is the posibility :-)

Dont know why CSS does not implement some more useful formatting,
when it comes to actual line length, it depends on the fonts and
metrics you never know from app side.
