[ZPT] Using ZPT for non-HTML

I've seen people mention using ZPT for generating non-HTML output, but 
I'm not sure what technique they've used. (I'm thinking specifically 
about generating text emails)

I'd actually be reasonably happy with a simple HTML renderer that dealt 
with a subset of HTML; then it could apply wordwrapping and other 
formatting after the template has been filled out.  Is there such a 
library that anyone has used and liked?
