I'd looked at SimpleTAL, but since something based on Zope existed I
stuck with that -- we use Zope as well, so having the same template
system was one of the features we were looking for. I don't know if the
differences in ZPT and SimpleTAL would really be problematic, but ZPT
was easy enough to get installed.
But it does lead to a question -- the packages at zpt.sf.net are a year
and a half old, and I get the impression that package isn't really being
maintained. I haven't encountered any problems yet, but I think other
people have. I think Sean Reifschneider said he had problems with the
zpt.sf.net packages in JOTWeb (and he moved to SimpleTAL as a result),
but I don't know the details.
Then there's also OpenTAL, which I didn't really consider for this
project due to it using the GPL. It claims to be more open to
extension, but I don't know what that actually means. I don't know if
it's really a live package at this point either.
And, at some point Zope 3's ZPT packages are going to be separately
installable as well, yes? Are they already available that way?
