I'd forgotten about the concerns Evan raises; he's right about this.

But I agree that that doesn't affect what you're talking about, now
that you've explained it fully; I'd thought you meant the expression
scheme namespace as well.

There shouldn't be a problem with the path adapter namespace allowing
any valid URI scheme name.
