Does your problem go away when you put export ZOPE_SECURITY_POLICY=PYTHON in your start script?
Mine did. I would otherwise not have suspected cAccessControl.
Stefan, Please add your findings to bug 421 if you think they are related (try and reproduce the case in 421, for example). Your patch may get lost among the Zope-Dev traffic if you don't.
