I have installed zope 2.8.7, Python 2.3.5 on Linux redhat enterprise AS 4 (2 cpu's and 2.6 kernel).
When start zope it starts only one thread.
When you start Python it will start *four* work threads by default. Check the thread configuration in etc/zope.conf.
