[Zope] config/Makefile not found

      I'm installing Zope on a Linuxbox with python 2.3 installed (lib directory 
/usr/lib/python2.3)

after running ./configure with no options, I get following error message when 
running make:

error: invalid Python installation: unable to open 
/usr/lib/python2.3/config/Makefile (No such file or directory)
make: *** [build] Error 1

Any idea to solve this?
