Use a REQUEST variable:

<!--#call "REQUEST.set('total', 0.0)"-->
<!--#in FloatList-->
   <!--#call "REQUEST.set('total', total + _['sequence-item'])"-->
<!--#/in-->

Note: This code is untested. YMMV.
