[Zope] get recordid for an object

Given an object that I know is in a catalog how can I get its recordid? I know how to get the object using the recordid but I would like to use the recordid as a unique value for another lookup that it makes a lot of sense to use it for. As long as it remains unique for about 5-10 minutes in most cases that is more then enough for what I need it for. Designing web applications http://webme-eng.com
