Does "nslookup 142489" from a DOS box work? In any case, even if it does, the "slowness" you see is likely due a DNS issue related only to your local machine. There is nothing special about Zope 2.5 that would make it authenticate any slower than previous Zope versions. H.de.Wit@SFK.NL wrote:

my machine is called 142489, and in my internet explorer 142489 as well as \\142489 is known (i see my printers and my scheduled tasks) I hope that this is what you mean.

Can your machine resolve its own hostname other than localhost? For example, if your machine is named "frobnitz", can "frobnitz" be resolved?

Probably a DNS issue. Can your test machine resolve its own hostname?
Thank you for reacting. Indeed localhost was not in my host file, and i added it, thanks. However, http://127.0.0.1 itself is reacting very fast, less than a
second.
http://127.0.0.1/manage takes exactly 24 seconds see the authentication popup.
My last mail was a little wrong: my machine is a windows nt 4.0 machine
