gVim is very nice, unless you hate vi :)

If you hate vi, try adding Cream to Vim - it's an extensive set of configuration scripts for Vim that's easy to install and makes vi a little easier to comprehend out of the box: http://cream.sourceforge.net/ After getting used to this I eventually ended up switching back to regular Vim, but it does help to get you started.
