[Zope] Newbie question: Properties

Hello all, I've been reading the zope docs, and done a tutorial or two, but I still don't know what exactly a property is. I'm used the concept of a propery like this: if I have a rock, the rock's properties are weight, color, size, density, etc... I've added properties, but that doesn't exactly explain what they are...
