Hi Rahul, Welcome to Zope! If you need help getting Zope installed and running, check out the Zope Book. You can find it on the Zope Documentation page: http://www.zope.org/Members/michel/ZB If you've already got it installed and running, the Zope Tutorial that comes with Zope is a great way to learn how to use Zope in a short amount of time. You can start the tutorial by browsing to the Zope managament interface ( http://localhost:8080/manage might work, depending on your installation). Then, in the "Select type to add..." box, select "Zope Tutorial" You'll be prompted for an id for the tutorial. Enter "MyZopeTutorial" or something similar and click the ADD button. Then click the Begin Tutorial button and have fun! If you get stuck, search for an answer in the Zope Book, the mailing list archives and then, if you still are stuck, ask for help here on the list. Hope that helps. Eric. PS, it's a good idea to change the subject line of the message to something appropriate to the question you are asking.

I expected that, Michel. ;) Although I'd already tried it without success, your reply at least nudged me to poke around a bit more, and I discovered that it is the .read() that causes the difficulty.
This: <dtml-boundary type=application/octet-stream disposition=attachment encode=base64><dtml-var expr="restrictedTraverse(SendDoc).read()"></dtml-mime> </dtml-sendmail>
fails with an attribute error on the read(). I got the read() syntax from the Zope book http://www.zope.org/Members/michel/ZB/AdvDTML.dtml and an archived list message http://lists.zope.org/pipermail/zope/2000-August/116944.html. It appears to be incorrect for this case, though I'll be damned if I know why.
For the record, REQUEST.resolve_url still failed with a namespace error when I removed the read(). You've convinced me, I'll use restrictedTraverse from now on! :-)

consultitive process and have some focus on what is really trying to be achieved. I aggree that the changes to Zope have been way to slow but then again Zope is going in 5 directions at once which is not a good idea esp if none of those ways work togeather.
Too slow? I'm having enough trouble keeping up with the changes the way it is. I suspect that what is too slow is changes in the direction *you* want. As for me, I am very happy with the speed at which DC implements change. Especially the speed at which they come out with security fixes.

You start with your old "Data.fs" in the new side and there, you delete everything you do not like.
No can do. I have some sort of corruption in the ODB that becomes apparent when I try upgrading (see trace below). On top of this I don't want to drag around the history of everything else in the ZODB. How hard would a selective pack operation be? ie pack everything but one folder
An alternative may be an external Python script that uses XML-RPC to fetch the versions of an object in the source Zope and create/update them in the destination Zope. It would need an External Method in the destination to tweak modification time and friends. Not too easy...
hmm, sounds complicated. Actually sounds like ZODBReplication or synchronization. Can you outline in a little more detail how you would do this? How do you tweak the modification time etc?

However, as a layman of python and Zope, I couldn't figure out the meaning of "MyObj(name).__of__(self)". What is '__of__' funtion? And why these two steps are required to solve my problem? Look forward to your enlightenment.

I think the answer depends on which storage you're using to hold the external data container, and might be "dont use that storage".
I actually have a suspicion that CST has nothing to do with it, and that if the mounted external database was (for example) a FileStorage, that this error might never happen.
But that poses a problem, because to my knowledge, there are no version-aware but non-unoing storages, of course.
Sigh. The answer is... "not practically", I believe.

I suspect that you'll need RewriteRules. Something like:

The ProxyPassReverse *may* still do its job, but I recommend a VirtualHostMonster anyway.

If it isn't a typo in your post, the following certainly needs to be corrected:
INST_HOME=`cd $reldir; pwd`

This may also need to be edited, to correct paths:
/usr/local/www/vhosts/dsuk/cgi-bin/Zope.cgi
The error looks like a Python configuration problem. Can you start Python from the command line and import os?
'import site' failed; use -v for traceback Traceback (most recent call last): File "/usr/home/dsuk/Zope/SoftwareHome/z2.py", line 296, in ? import os, sys, getopt, string ImportError: No module named os

I know this has been done, but I don't know how to do it myself. I'm trying to write a html page where some parts gets displayed only if the user has logged in. If the person is not logged in, it should display some generic text, with perhaps a "login" button somewhere. I'm also trying to do this from an external method.
For one thing, I'm not sure if I need to add another role or another permission. I can't seem to be able to add another permission, I only see the ability to add a user role. So I tried that, and used SecurityManager.validate(). But it forces you to login, whereas I want a more passive approach.

Sounds like a slightly malformed RewriteRule. Can you post it?

Hi everybody,
I'm trying to install Zope Perl on Windows following andym's How-To, but I have some problems. When I run this command:
D:\Temp\pyperl-1.0.1\Python-Object>perl makefile.pl
I obtain this output:
Picking up pyton include files from "C:\Programmi\Zope\bin\include" Checking if your kit is complete... Looks good Note (probably harmless): No library found for '../perlpyd.lib' Writing Makefile for Python::Object
It doesn't find perlpyd.lib, is it normal? And more, it's really harmless? Anyway, it makes the makefile, but when I run this command:
D:\Temp\pyperl-1.0.1\Python-Object>nmake install
this is the result:

Get all objects in a folder sorted according to when they were last modified:
<dtml-in expr="objectValues()" sort=bobobase_modification_time reverse> <dtml-var title_or_id> </dtml-in>
You can also specify meta-types , if you don't want all kinds of objects: objectValues(['File','Image'])

Hello,
I'm doing quick search using several indexes in a ZCatalog as below
<dtml-in expr="Catalog(title=query) + Catalog(category=query) + Catalog(description=query) + Catalog(product=query) + Catalog(keywords=query)">
This works really well. However, if my query string is found in more than one index I get the same object returned more than once.
How do I sort the list of objects returned and more importantly remove duplicate objects?
Thanks for any help.

Put all results in a dictionary, mapping URL to object. Do it in Python Script, of course.

Oops, forgot to say, that even this does not guarantee uniquness. Consider these URLs: http://my.server/Folder http://my.server/Folder/ http://my.server/Folder/index_html 3 different URLs point to the same object.

for instance, when we process a form action to write to the database, the database comes up with 3 similar values/data.
It depends on the form action, your DTML or Python code and the user. Did the user press the submit-button multiple times? What do you mean exactly by "similar values/data"?
I think you have to be more specific...

Thanks for the suggestion Oleg,
Would the rid be unique in this case? Would this be a better key to use?
All the objects returned are my own ZClasses so alternatively I could add a property which I could make sure is unique for all items.
Any thoughts anyone?
Thanks
Mike

This works really well. However, if my query string is found in more than one index I get the same object returned more than once.
How do I sort the list of objects returned and more importantly remove duplicate objects?
Put all results in a dictionary, mapping URL to object. Do it in Python Script, of course.
Oops, forgot to say, that even this does not guarantee uniquness. Consider these URLs: http://my.server/Folder http://my.server/Folder/ http://my.server/Folder/index_html 3 different URLs point to the same object.

[Zope] database connectioni'm sorry i wasn't very specific. we have a message board on our site. and when a visitor tries to post a message, the message comes up 2 or more times. meaning, the message board gets flooded with duplicate messages.
this also happens when users sign up to be members. their membership submit button produces multiple add records that an error comes up to them and says they have already signed up.

Ah, I see: there's a loop around your insert statement on line 482 of add_message.py that doesn't check its loop condition correctly :-)
I'm sorry, but you'll have to be even more specific. Stories are hard to debug.
Did you write this message board yourself, or is it a standard product that you downloaded from elsewhere? Is the source code available somewhere on the Net?
Did you verify that the method that processes the form and adds the message is called only once?

REQUEST is, as allways, the request object.

ZopeFind returns a list of two item tuples. The first item is the object's id, the second is it path *relative to the 'obj' argument*.

Hi,
I am having problems with getting back data from ZCatalog.
I create instances of the ZClass "racedate". racedate has a property called "date_sort" which is the date that the race will take place in the format "yyyymmdd". In a dtml-document I read the objects with
<dtml-with "admin.racedates"> <dtml-in "Catalog(sort_on='date_sort)"> <dtml-var date_sort> [...]
Everything works fine until two or more objects have the same value in date_sort (eg. 20010528). Then it miserably fails. Only part of the objects or even none are displayed. I tried back and forth and it really seems to be the sort_on='date_sort'. If I do sort_on='id', all objects are displayed and <dtml-var date_sort> shows the right values. So the problem really seems to be the sorting on an index when 2 or more objects have the same value for that property. Is that a bug or a feature?

PS: Using Zope 2.3.2 src, Phyton 1.5.2, SuSE 7.1
I worked a little on this again it really is like that: If you do a dtml-in "Catalog(sort_on='property')"> where more than 1 objects have the same value for this property, the dtml-in fails. I bypassed this by adding a unique number (as described in the "Searchable Job Board" How-To) to the string I want to do seaching on.
Again my question is: Is this behaviour *normal*. Should a do something basically different or is this a bug in the ZCatalog in Zope 2.3.2
