If you're thinking of just the hierarchical category display, the ODP-related work seems very relevant.
It also seems that the "Topic" proposal is relevant here. Since a Yahoo-esque sort of thing is basically a hierarchical index, that sounds a lot like what Topics are meant to provide. Kevin
