[Zope] How to test whether something is a string?

Hi, In DTML, is there anyway of testing whether something is a string? (This is because I am using the <SELECT MULTIPLE...> form in submitting a HTML form. For single choice, the object submitted is a string, for mulitple choices, the object submitted is a list of strings.
