It means the Zope process does not have permission to write to the var directory (under the Zope home). Don't run Zope as root; set up a different Zope userid to run the software and have the software and data homes owned by the Zope userid. i'm trying to get zope 2.5.0 running on linux 7.2. i untarred the zope tarball in /usr/local and the install script ran without reporting any errors. the start script reported an exception when it ran. the output is below:
