I was getting a bunch of these lately due to broken objects and, I suspect, some open Versions that were pointing to deleted objects. I got rid of the broken objects and the versions and they have gone away. (Make me nervous, too!)
Right now we know of several circumstances which could cause this error, but no way to explain how frequently they appear to be reported. I would be pleased to debug this If you can produce a small test case that repeatably causes a POSKeyError. (If you are feeling nervous about POSKeyErrors then you might want to look at DirectoryStorage, http://dirstorage.sourceforge.net. It is designed to be more defensive against these known causes. However you may also feel nervous about using alpha-release storages......)
