This should be covered in the Zope Book (maybe the Zope Developper Guide). Look for "PropertyManager".

And to make them on files (.props files) ?

A few days ago, I saw a post in the Plone mailing list indicating the ".props" files do not implement selections. This is *VERY* sensible because you cannot change properties defined in files via a selection ;-) -- Dieter
