there is test_largefile.py script in the tests directory. I think this checks your interpreter. I have updated our python to 2.2.1 but installed from an rpm package ...
Would that one be compiled with LFS ?
If the RPM makes enabled LF then yes. Otherwise re-install Python from the sources.
