It's a bit of a no-no in Zope to change an object's id after it has been "seated" into an object manager. If you really need to do so use the ObjectManager API, i.e. manage_renameObject(). The reason is that object managers keep an internal list of subobject ids, and when this list disagrees with reality all kind of havoc is caused, as you have discovered.
