One method I've looked at for this is using cron to run Lynx through specific URL's (i.e. a method to back things up or do whatever).

A cool idea somebody suggested was having cron run lynx once a method agaisnt http://zope:8080/scheduler, where scheduler is a DTMLmethod or pythonmethod that launches the appropiate scheduled tasks if they match the current time.
