Actually, I was thinking a little closer to color schemes:
color_1 color_2 color_3
and then using the same color in different places:
Page background is color_1 table cells with color_2 backgrounds use color_3 for text table cells with color_3 backgrounds use color_1 for text
Etc. in various combinations according to your needs. Then you can change the color scheme of the entire page in a coordinated way, just by changing between 3 and 5 properties, instead of managing ten or more. ... yes that's another way.
