I've been suggesting for a while now that it might be time to write a zope-based forum.
You are in for a treat then! I am currently writing a forum product. And it is going to be really easy to modify. At least on the filesystem. It is almost finished. But currently I only have a few "skins" for it. The most advances is like a newsreader. Boring graphics, but it nicely shows of most of the features.
