[Zope] Proxy roles

Hi folks, I've been trying to find out how exactly proxy roles work.

From the explanation on the proxy-tab view, I assumed that if I give a DTML Document or Method the proxy role 'Manager', it wouldn't matter who is accessing that DTML Document or Method because they would have the same permissions as a 'Manager'. That is obviously wrong because it didn't work that way.

Does anyone here know how these proxy roles really work? I appreciate any help. Katrin
