seeking Australian Zope developer / designer
Hello, My name is Kate Booker, I am based in Sydney, Australia and I publish a kids web site called "wicked4kids". The site has grown to the extent that it is no longer feasible to maintain it using html files as site wide changes involve redundantly updating many pages on the site. I also want to start to outsource the webmaster role so I can focus more on the business. Other future goals are to make the site more interactive and personalisable. This has brought me to the point of considering what technology to use. I am considering alternatives such as; XML with server side translation to HTML, Cold Fusion, Domino and of course Zope. While the open-source and non-proprietary nature of Zope really appeals to me (and is a count against, for example, Cold Fusion), my prime concern is the availability of developers / designers. My site currently uses perl scripts and I have had difficulty getting developers to help me with maintaining the site, so I am a bit nervous about moving to a less well-known technology such as Zope. What I would like to know is the availability of support for developing / designing web sites, where they are based and at what cost. If there are any Sydney-based designers / developers interested in providing development and support for a Zope-based web site, Id be most pleased to hear from you: mailto:kate.booker@wicked4kids.com Thanks in anticipation, Kate Booker

There are a few things to consider. First of all, you are probably going to find it a bit difficult to find a Zope Guru. Most Guru's are working with it already or just hacking with it. There are a few companies (check on Zope.org under resources) that will probably do some set up and programming for you but I am not sure how many will be in Australia. The good news, though, is that Python and Zope are pretty easy. You don't have to be a C++ or Java programmer to understand Zope and get it up and running. Anyone with some great HTML skills and some basic programming understanding could dig in to Zope and be pretty productive in a week or so. So, my advice is to find someone who has a good Linux, HTML background who understands and believes in the Open Source movement and is willing to learn. Knowing Apache is another good quality. Download and print out all the Zope Guides, give them the links to Zope.org, Zope Newbies and the documentation project and you and Zope can live happily ever after. J

Does it matter where in the world they are? Perhaps, a developer wanted site could be set up on Zope.org ... - ------- Regards, Graham Chiu gchiu<at>compkarori.co.nz http://www.compkarori.com/dynamo - The Homebuilt Dynamo http://www.compkarori.com/dbase - The dBase bulletin -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: PGPsdk version 1.7.1 iQA/AwUBOOdZZrTRdIWzaLpMEQLjgQCglFRrMJf3B2xn6l1f/83lkkV4g0QAoLJj 64B8BG4XzKypTD0lbmp8yJ7p =ar8v -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----

Not a bad plan... how about a job offers section too? The job offers that have been posted to the list recently seem a bit out of place amoungst the normal techy discussions. my $0.02 chris
