Uh, no, I think. chown root /fred, chmod 700 /fred, chmod 711 /fred/barney. Then anybody can get a listing of barney, but only root can see what's in fred. And if I su nobody and run python, os.listdir('/fred/barney') works but os.listdir('/fred') gets 'Permission Denied'. -- Wade
