Tree tag requires password??

Hello... I'm trying to add a tree tag to a folder. I haven't defined any users or anything like that, so I expected the folder to inherit security attributes from the parent (the root dir, in this case, which is also user free). If I include the tree tag, Zope asks for authentication. If I <!--#comment--> the tree tag out, it no longer asks for a user/pass. That's not the way its supposed to behave, is it?
