Am I the only one who does not take particularly kindly to the new DTML syntax? Well, I guess I might be. :) Before you bring forth the lynching implements, though, hear me out.

Imho, Cold Fusion's CFML syntax does one notch better than DTML because it only devotes two characters ("CF") to distinguishing Cold Fusion tags from other markup, so you have keywords such as "cfquery", "cfoutput", and so on. Easily recognizable, short, sweet, easy to type. On the other hand, it uses a proprietary syntax for in-place variable insertion (eg., "#Name#" inserts the variable Name), so it's not all bliss.
So you suggest using somethig like "dtif" or "dt-if" ?

Perhaps "zif", "zin" "zlet" ? Andrew

[snip three people suggesting 'z' as the new tag prefix instead of 'dtml'] Hey, Digicool folks, this starts to sound like a rather good idea; it seems to be intuitive for at least 3 people. I'd vote for 'z-if' as opposed to 'zif', though, as I'd read 'zzzzzzzzzzzzif!' for the latter, and not 'zed-if'. Also the '-' helps distinguishing DTML visually from HTML. On reflection, I do agree Alexander Staubo's probems with the 'dtml-' prefix make sense, and 'z-' sounds like a good solution. It's not too late yet to change it! :) Regards, Martijn

I wholeheartedly agree. The z-foo syntax is very clean and intuitive. -Tim -- Timothy D. Wilson "A little song, a little dance, University of MN, chem. dept. a little seltzer down your wilson@chem.umn.edu pants." -Chuckles the Clown Phone: (612) 625-9828 as eulogized by Ted Baxter

The XML convention is z:if. You can take that as an argument for or against the hyphen as you see fit. Paul Prescod

If this is a vote, I vote for <z-if> .. </z-if> syntax,

...and would like some code left in to placate us early adoptors of <dtml-esque syntax :) tone
