Re: [Zope] DCOracle for 8.1.5 (8i)
Sorry for that I am newbie to this area. How to fiddle that link options to get it work? Thanks. Zifa Anthony Baxter <anthony@interlink.com.au> said:
DCOracle works against 8i. You just have to fiddle the Setup script to get the link libraries right.
It doesn't use some of the new neato whizzbang 8i features, but if that sort of early-adopter stuff is what you need, that's where you pay them to add it.
I'm using it against an 8i database every day.

current Oracle be a good choice? Zope is a great product, but if there is to be no 8i support it will force me to use something else. Currently we are running Zope on a win2k box connected to a debian 8i box, but the hope has really been get zope off Windows.
I think you should guys should consider revisiting the issue. You can download 8i from the technet site to get an idea how much work it will take. I'm sure someone spent considerable time making the existing oracle adapter work, it might not be that bad to make it work against 8i.

I don't know what the status on 8i compatability is, have you tried it? It might just work.
Note that Oracle's client libraries change in non-backwards compatable ways quite often. You many need to make minor adjustments to the code.
We do not have 8i, and the only way we're going to look at it is if one of our customers requires 8i compatability or wants to specificly pay for 8i integration.

Does anyone here know when will the Adapter for Oracle 8i be ready for us to use? Any plan at all? If there is any, what is the time frame?
Thanks.

edit the Setup script to get the necessary libs for linking an OCI application under your particular flavor of Unix. It varies by platform and by minor Oracle version - see your platform specific Oracle docs for the details. I went to look for the Setup file I used, but I think I must've stomped it somewhere along the line. Once upon a time I attempted to write something that would parse the Makefiles that ship with Oracle to generate a Setup file. This was a completely fruitless task - Oracle seem to go out of their way to make this a total pain in the backside (probably to make more business for their consulting business "yes, we can help you compile an application" - god knows their consultant (in my experience, anyway) aren't much good for anything else...)) oops. </rant> Anthony
Watch your mouths, guys. My ex-girlfriend's father is director of consulting engineering at Oracle and I have been slowly but surely turning him on to Zope. You never know when he might start reading the list (he doesn't yet, to the best of my knowledge). --sam Anthony Baxter wrote:

Not to say that I disagree with your opinion about the oracle consultants, though... ;-) --sam Sam Gendler wrote:
