Hi all, how does Zope work on Windows2000? Due to sudden "political and strategical" reasons, the operating system of choise for a large worldwide community site will be windows2000... (Microsoft visited some high governement official lately...) However, an existing website already exists, and is build in Zope... Now we have to choose for reimplementing the entire site using all Microsoft technology, or installing Zope on a Windows2000 server. Of course, I don't want Zope to blame, when the server goes down because of windows or has some windows-related securityholes in it... What is your experience with Zope on Windows2000? Some background: the site I am talking about is likely to be hacked by war-criminals... It is going to be the worldwide website for Sercurity, Peace and Justice (seated in and hosted by "Den Hague, Legal Capital") Some events in the past, where war-criminals hacked sites which contained the "wrong" publicity material makes me believe that... Furthermore, the site will be very large in terms of all kind of content, delivered by many participants. It is believed, and the intention that the site will serve many visitors from all around the world... So: what should I do? Rely on all-microsoft technology, run Zope on Windows2000, or forget about Zope in the first place for such a tricky project ? I apreciate any thoughts on this... Thanks a lot! Greetings, Antwan.

*Sigh* An official that doesn't even know how to use a bloody mouse. Or are you talking about a more recent visit?

What the hell is such a site doing on Win2K??? This should be on OpenBSD from the word get-go.

I have no direct experience of running Zope on Win2K, but it runs just fine on that platform. If you have no choice about the OS, but can coose for Zope still, I see no reason why you should switch. -- Martijn Pieters | Software Engineer mailto:mj@digicool.com | Digital Creations http://www.digicool.com/ | Creators of Zope http://www.zope.org/ ---------------------------------------------
Hello,
What the hell is such a site doing on Win2K??? This should be on OpenBSD from the word get-go.
Actually, you can still run Zope on W2K but put it behind an OpenBSD box. This would protect you against most attacks, and, assuming no one comes up with a Zope crack that gives them access to the filesystem, it should be quite safe. I've done this myself and it is quite straightforward. Zope runs v nicely on W2K but I prefer running it behind an OpenBSD box. Luke

I have experience of running Zope on most windows platforms and I must say that I am so far most impressed by w2k. The 9x/ME shouldn't even be mentioned. But the speed of w2k vs. NT4 is worth noting. Alone on this? I have though had some problems once with the services on w2k. I restart or shut down Zope from the ZMI Control Panel and it refuses to restart. So I click the Services thing in the Windows Control Panel. It looks like it tries to start it after a click on the "play button". It then complains about that the services is aldready running and the Services looks in windows like it isn't started. This however starts Zope but looks funny in the Windows Control Panel. Later they restarted the machine and I quit the company. Don't know if the problem remains. Cheers Peter

Could you report this to the collector? You'll find it at: http://classic.zope.org:8080/Collector/ Thanks! -- Martijn Pieters | Software Engineer mailto:mj@digicool.com | Digital Creations http://www.digicool.com/ | Creators of Zope http://www.zope.org/ ---------------------------------------------

Same here. My fav platform is FreeBSD by far, but if I have to use win I go for 2k server. I've had no real problems on them working together --had other ones though, nothing to do with zope Just be sure (my bitter experince says) to add LOTS of memory if you think your traffic will be anything more than 1 hit / sec (average). Hi, We run lots of Zope on Win2k with no problem. Windows security, well thats another matter. Just dont forget to turn everything else IIS etc. off :) Cheers. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Antwan Reijnen" <antwan@dexus.nl> To: <zope@zope.org> Sent: Saturday, May 19, 2001 5:01 AM Subject: [Zope] Zope on Windows2000
