This workflow is now reworked and completed by Frlorent Guillaume of Nuxeo (see www.nuxeo.org) and there will also be a sprint (Extreme prgroamming session) related to workflow on zope on March 4, 5 and 6.
Tres Seaver posted a short write-up of the Sprint on Zopezen -

- but it looks like we'll have to wait for Zope 3 for the results? (though he mentions the possibility of prototyping activity-based workflows in the CMF)
As mentioned by Tres Seaver, during the srpint session at Saarbrucken, 2 differents workflow implementations, OpenFlow mainly developped by the Italian company ICube, activity based and compliant with the Worflow management coalition standards and the followup of DCWorkflow, now maintained by Florent Guillaume of Nuxeo have been discussed, in order to see how to reconcile them. They are both available NOW or in the very near future (for new version of nuxworkflow). No need to wait for ZOPE3. I suppose a clear explanation of the 2 will shortly come to help you choose which suits best your needs. Both are developped under contractual basis and will be made compliant with the cmf, hence with zope3 also. Maybe a specific mailing list could be created to discuss the important subject of workflow in zope. They will also be integrated with the coming groupzope, a full feature gropware system, also developped by Nuxeo for the Region of Brussels-Capitals, that is planned to be GPL and be available by next september.
