Hi folks, I have just installed zope on my FreeBSD box. The problem is that it's dryving me crazy. It's very complex. Is there a source of documentation like the one we can see (for instance) for MySQL. Zope documentation is very poor, why? Another question that's catching my hears: Why is zope not written in C? Any kind of server tools should be coded in C, isn't it? Regards! -- We call our dog Egypt, because in every room he leaves a pyramid.

I'd start with the Zope book at http://www.zope.org/Members/michel/ZB/ -Tim -- Tim Wilson | Visit Sibley online: | Check out: Henry Sibley HS | http://www.isd197.org | http://www.zope.org W. St. Paul, MN | | http://slashdot.org wilson@visi.com | <dtml-var pithy_quote> | http://linux.com

The standard answer is the Zope book: http://www.zope.org/Members/michel/ZB/ I also recommend this "Learning Zope" how-to: http://www.zope.org/Members/itamar/LearningZope/LearningZope
Zope documentation is very poor, why?
I agree its somewhat poor, but I don't know why.
Why is zope not written in C?
Probably because that would drive the developers crazy :-)
Any kind of server tools should be coded in C, isn't it?
No, why? Actually, I think as little as possible should be coded in C, but let's not get in an argument about that on *this* list :-) Salut, René Pijlman

Have you read the Zope Book? How about the help system? What about the developer's guide? What, specifically, about the documentation is poor? How can we improve it?
Another question that's catching my hears: Why is zope not written in C? Any kind of server tools should be coded in C, isn't it?

Jesus Christ! Could not believe it. I went to the mt local ZopeTutorial (http://my_fully_qualified_name:8080/HelpSys . Then i clicked ZopeTutorial and went to the first lesson: I got on the another layer: Lesson 1. "Elvis Lives" Home Page Zope cannot find the tutorial examples ........ Choose "Zope Tutorial" from the product add list in the zope ..... Then i logged in as manager and went to Control_Panel/Products/Zope Tutorial, but i could not see any option to "add" it, i.e., to install it. May some one makes this clear? Gustavo, You *really* need to read the Zope Book. You don't create instances of Zope products from the control panel. You create them in a normal Zope folder. Basically, in your Zope root folder, use the drop-down list control at top right in your main manage window, select the tutorial from there. hth Phil ----- Original Message ----- From: "Gustavo Vieira Goncalves Coelho Rios" <gustavo@ifour.com.br> To: "Chris McDonough" <chrism@digicool.com> Cc: <zope@zope.org> Sent: Saturday, June 30, 2001 11:08 PM Subject: Re: [Zope] beginner

You don't add the Zope Tutorial from the Products Interface, you can add it once you are in your "root" folder, then from the pull-down menu you will be able to add the zope tutorial. The Products, folder is where you add products that are then available, to the rest of your site. hth Norman -----Original Message----- From: zope-admin@zope.org [mailto:zope-admin@zope.org]On Behalf Of Gustavo Vieira Goncalves Coelho Rios Sent: 30 June 2001 23:09 To: Chris McDonough Cc: zope@zope.org Subject: Re: [Zope] beginner Jesus Christ! Dont visit the control panel. Instead, just go to the root folder, and choose "Zope Tutorial" from the "Add" dropdown list. - C
