hi,
why don't you use imperia6 ?
as you might know (@...bayern.de) we are using imperia in our company, but in this case our customer wants either vignette - which their partner-company is using - or zope. Personally I like the design of zope (e.g. object orientation) and of course open-source-software and python... sven -- [s v e n s c h u p p] web-developer opus5 interaktive medien gmbh frankfurter str. 151 63303 dreieich tel.: +49 (0)6103 5853-177 fax: -5853-200 schupp@opus5.de http://www.opus5.de

Are there any technical reasons for choosing one of these prodcuts? Or are these 'political' reasons only? I can deliver 'political' reasons for not using vignette - but no technical reasons, as I don't know, what you actually want to do.

If that's all you need, you could find other CMSs, which match that list of criteria as well. by Töns -- There is no safe distance.

no technical reasons for _not_ using vignette yet...i don't know anything about vignette. It's about building a portal. For which the CMF seems to be a good choice in my eyes...

yes, maybe. But would you like to change the CMS you are working with every week? IMHO it is better to know one or to systems very good instead of using several CMS's with only basic knowhow... bye, sven -- [s v e n s c h u p p] web-developer opus5 interaktive medien gmbh frankfurter str. 151 63303 dreieich tel.: +49 (0)6103 5853-177 fax: -5853-200 schupp@opus5.de http://www.opus5.de

Correct - but a portal normally is a frontend to various other systems. There could be technical reasons _for_ Vignette because of its capabilities in integrating these 'backend'-systems. It would be interesting to find out, whether V5 or V6 are going to be used. V5 is basically a tcl interpreter with a few templates and daemons for caching and delivery - _everything_ else needs to be adapted or developed. The business model behind V5 is: selling an alpha-product with an impressive price tag to a customer and then selling consulting, integration and training with an equally considerable price tag afterwards. V6 seems to be Java based, bringing it nearer to the J2EE-Applicationserver-Enterprise-Hype-Hot-Spot. Never worked with it - only read a few magazine articles. by Töns -- There is no safe distance.
