Cross-platform question for the day: I know you can get Python for the Macintosh. Will Zope run on a Mac?

Not at the moment, because the DC guys have not got the experience nor the resources to get it to work. But there might be hope. I recently delivered a small Zope e-commerce app to a startup company called Oratrix (http://www.oratrix.com/; Their GRiNS for Smile editor can be bought using a Zope server). It is a spin-off from CWI, the institute where Guido van Rossum developed Python. The two programmers that work there are both avid Python users. In fact, their product line is implemented in Python. One of them, Jack Jansen, is also the maintainer of MacPython. My recent introduction of Zope there has certainly drawn Jack's attention. I'll be doing some more work for them next week. I'll definitely will ask Jack about the status of MacPython 1.5.2 (which is not yet there, but would be needed), and his thoughts on, let's be consistent, MacZope. -- Martijn Pieters, Web Developer | Antraciet http://www.antraciet.nl | T: +31 35 7502100 F: +31 35 7502111 | mj@antraciet.nl http://www.antraciet.nl/~mj | PGP: http://wwwkeys.nl.pgp.net:11371/pks/lookup?op=get&search=0xA8A32149 ---------------------------------------------

not without a lot of work - too much unix-y stuff going on. Now I heard that someone had got it working on MacOS-X Server, and I've got it running under linuxppc, but natively? not for the forseeable future I think.. tone

I still haven't gotten it all going on LinuxPPC (with apache) but I will admit that I haven't tried very hard. I followed what looked like the directions <g>, but so far no luck. I think I might have had an insight today about why it might not have worked; I'll come back tomorrow and try again (I shouldn't be in the office today!). I don't see why it couldn't run on the MacOS with the proper hacking, but I'm rarely in the MacOS enough to try. :) -- Deirdre Saoirse, Systems Analyst, Linuxcare, Inc. 415.354.4878 x252 tel, 415.701.7457 fax dsaoirse@linuxcare.com, http://www.linuxcare.com/ Linuxcare.
