Zope release numbers 1.9 to 2.1

By the way, I'm remiss in letting people know the schedule for 1.10. We wrapped it up yesterday, checking in Amos' changes for officially blessing import/export and putting it in the interface. We are going to use 1.10 in a consulting gig this week for which the customers are onsite here. If it passes muster we'll make binaries early next week and get them on the website.
So your going from version 1.9 to 1.10. ***Consider going from version 1.9 to 2.1***
From a marketing perspective and user perception. Version 1.9 seems "later" than version 1.10. and
Since 1.10 corrects a lot of bugs, we hope to annoint it as the official stable release for quite a while.
Why not go to a 2.1 release? (Skip 2.0 for the obvious reason that many people have angst about .0 releases)
This will allow us to roll out, as experimental work, the advanced but risky stuff we're finishing up in Zope Classes, WebDAV, and ZServer. Great

I agree that 1.10 made me blink confusedly a couple of times too. I'm not advocating necessarily that you go to 2.1, just agreeing that it is confusing. Regards, Martijn

As sad as it is, I have to agree. I find the 1.10 nomenclature entirely too much like 1.1 ... I think the human brain is just trained to dump trailing zeros after a decimal point. Also, I don't see any reason why it couldn't be called 2.0 with teh new server, and document overhaul? That's more than SOME Software companies put in their 3.5 -> 4.0 upgrade ;-) Chris -- | Christopher Petrilli | petrilli@amber.org

Yeah, me too! How about 1.9.1 or 1.9A if you don't want to go a whole release higher. My vote would be for 2.0. Zope would get more attention that way too. :) Phil. ----------------------------------------------------------- Philip Aylesworth mailto:purple@mnsi.net
