Python does not impose a serious limit (independent on the word size). If the C library and the underlying operating system can handle files larger than 2 GB, then Python can do, too.
If you upgrade your C library for large file support, you may need to reconfigure and regenerate Python as the file access interfaces are not binary compatible. Dieter
