ZEO server setup question: cost/performance?
Hello, I am considering a new hardware setup for running several Zope-powered web servers and am looking for feedback from the community as to the validity of cost and performance for the setup. How much traffic will this setup be able to handle? What future upgrades will need to be considered to improve performance? Thank you in advance for any feedback! -- The Setup -- Front end (Squid cache / Load balancer) CPU: 3GHz P4 RAM: 4GB HDD: 2x36GB 10,000 rpm NIC: 1GBit Linksys Back end (ZEO server database storage) CPU: 3GHz P4 RAM: 2GB HDD: 3x73GB NIC: 1GBit Linksys 3 x ZEO clients CPU: 2.8GHz P4 RAM: 1GB HDD: 36GB 10,000 rpm 8-port GBit switch for local traffic Todd Elsbernd Computer Services Specialist The University of Georgia 4-424 Forest Resources Building Athens, GA 30602 telsbernd@sref.info (706)-542-1078

Unfortunately these questions cannot be answered by anybody but you. It depends heavily on your application and your expected traffic. It may sound like a nice setup to me, but ... *shrug* If you have not, read Chris McDonough's "Scaling Zope" presentation. It may help you answer your questions. http://www.plope.org/misc/szweb -- Paul Winkler http://www.slinkp.com
