- [Zope] in mailing list headers
Howdy All, Anybody have an opinion on the necessity of continuing to have [Zope] in the subject header? Originally in the switch from Bobo-list to Zope-list and duplication of messages it served a good purpose. The Bobo-list didn't and doesn't have an equivalent [Bobo] prefix. Most people have migrated to the Zope and the Bobo list is greatly reduced. I have seen messages such as: RE: [Zope] - RE: [Zope] -... "[Zope] - " minimally consumes 9 characters. Add a "re: " and your upto 13. This has caused some subjects to be cut. Is it still desired? I know this isn't any over-my-head-technical-subject but, any opinions? Jimmie Houchin

I've always found such things unnecessary. Don't most mail readers these days offer presorting [by To: address]? Richard

Doesn't help. Some mails come with Cc:zope@zope.org, ... Andreas -- Win95: n., A huge annoying boot virus that causes random spontaneous system crashes, usually just before saving a massive project. Easily cured by UNIX. See also MS-DOS, IBM-DOS, DR-DOS, Win 3.x, Win98.

Sorry, I should've looked at my configuration before I posted. Mailman (the list software the zope site uses) always has a "Sender: zope-admin@zope.org", and you can sort on that. Majordomo lists are the same. [except, of course, the courtesy CC I'm sending directly to you won't have the Sender] Richard

And yes, I know Sender:, I've got a number of mailing lists subscribed that I read sporadically, and they are being dealt with Sender: and .procmailrc :) Andreas -- Win95: n., A huge annoying boot virus that causes random spontaneous system crashes, usually just before saving a massive project. True, very true. But I have many dozens of filters which do not require such Subject: header assistance. I currently filter Bobo without any problems. All it would require is <Any Header>: zope@zope.org Filters just fine. Jimmie Houchin

All it would require is <Any Header>: zope@zope.org Filters just fine. The point is, that I do not Zope to be filed away automatically. I prefer to do it manually, from my INBOX. It also gives a nice overview from what the mail is about ;)

Howdy All,
Anybody have an opinion on the necessity of continuing to have [Zope] in the subject header? I like it. Actually it makes managing the list manually (as I do with any list I'm following activly) easier: To save it to it's folder, I just have to select upon Subject: substring [Zope]. :)

Is it still desired? My vote is for it :)
