Care to elaborate, or is this just flamebait? What don't you like about it, or what doesn't work the way you want it to? srl ----- Shane Renee Landrum slandrum@cs.smith.edu
as a newbie myself i can say that i experienced some considerable frustration in getting zope up and going and using it. (i still am!) the documentation and mailing list support is mediocre so far at best, especially when it comes to newbie questions. so i can understand where you're coming from. **BUT** zope kicks ass. so just give it a little time. its worth it. People are usually annoyed about newbie questions, since they have been answered a thousand times, but noone is willing to search the mailing list archives. I usually find 70% of the time the answers to my questions there. Regards, Stephan -- Stephan Richter CBU - Physics and Chemistry Web2k - Web Design/Development & Technical Project Management
true. and this newbie searches first before asking. however i have noticed my questions very often going unanswered. yeah they may be stupid but i only ask if i cant find it myself. it only takes a moment for you gods to respond to easy newbie questions and help point us in the right direction. in other areas where i approach god status i do it all the time. it falls under the heading of being a good community member. the fact is that the zope documentation sucks bigtime and is not easy to search. there are lots of ambiguities. if people really want zope to be successful and reach a wide audience i encourage you to think about this. The obvious solution is to improve the docs, but that's a work in progress already. It's a pity the mailing list software can't monitor the messages, and automatically re-post question messages that go unanswered. Questions could be flagged with a Q: header or whatever. -- Regards, Graham Chiu gchiu<at>compkarori.co.nz http://www.compkarori.co.nz/index.php Powered by Interbase and Zope

Ahhh, now we're getting some place. Zope's learning curve can be _very_ steep (depending on one's experience), but every day that I work with it, I am amazed at what can be accomplished and how it can be extended. As a counter example, I've used PHP since it was PHP/FI and found it an order of magnitude easier to learn. But it would take me forever to use PHP to publish content the way I can with Zope. Zope = harder to learn, much bigger rewards. -- Dennis Nichols nichols@tradingconnections.com
