Could we migrate Zope email to a news group?
The volume and variety of email on the Zope email lists would be better managed, I think, in a news group. Advantages: This would make it more visible in DejaNews, where some more folks would find us that otherwise wouldn't be as likely to stumble on, browse and learn from our old threads. It would be less disruptive for folks, like myself, who have their email setup to interrupt their work, but who turn to news only when ready for a break. My news reader is a better tool than my mailer for dealing with the selection and following of multiple long threads. How about creating some such news group as: comp.internet.zope comp.networks.zope comp.infosystems.www.servers.zope ?? and after it is a voted on and approved, pushing this email list (and the dev list) to news? ======================================================================= I won't rest till it's the best ... I'm in favour of moving to a news format, but the information here is sometimes far too critical to trust to the USENET. A private news server would be ideal, IMHO. Best of both worlds. Hmm. Maybe that's an excuse to write an nntpd module... as a counter to the "news is good", I'd just like to add "no its not". my mail reader software is _much_ easier to use than the news reading software - with filtering and the like in place, I can divert the mail to the appropriate folders, and only be interrupted when its important. whatever solution is used, the mailing list should stay as-is. why not get whatever's used for comp.lang.python/python-list? I'd like to second this. Let's not forget the increase in spam involved when mailing lists move to news. Richard
one other minor point - it's very hard for someone to crosspost to both a mailing list, and comp.lang.perl.misc. :) Anthony, who hasn't read python-list for quite some time now.
