Using Norton Internet Security with Zope
Hi, When you try to start Zope on a PC running Norton Internet Security, Windows crashes and the PC is rebooted automatically. Does anybody have a fix fort hat (other then un-installing Norton). Thanks - Henny

i think you answered the question: don't use Norton. the problem is with Norton not Zope. either try ZoneAlarm or a hardware-based firewall. luke
A good and free alternative to ZoneAlarm is the Tiny Personal Firewall, http://www.tinysoftware.com/pwall.php. As recommended at http://grc.com/lt/scoreboard.htm It's pretty cool stuff. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Luke Tymowski" <luke@seeto.com> To: <zope@zope.org> Sent: Sunday, June 24, 2001 12:16 PM Subject: Re: [Zope] Using Norton Internet Security with Zope

Wait a minute, ... Both you guys are named Henny? I mean,...that's great... and run zope on winMe... Me too--not so great. I got 1/2 gig of user's pics on my machine and I have to buy a 2nd machine to be able to switch to better OS safely. I have tried to use data.fs from my WinMe machine on win2K at work. No luck. The WinMe data.fs comes from a Zope version: Zope 2.2.2 (binary release, python 1.5.2, win32-x86) and the win2k zope is more recent. Zope wouldn't start when I copied it to /var. Shouldn't this work going from 2.2.2 to 2.3 (backward compatability)? Or is the problem the OS: FAT vs NTFS? I figured if I could do that, I could load win2k (for my asp work) and linux (I bought the redhat boxset), recover my site, and have some control over this situation--without having to spring for a new computer. On the other hand, I got a fixed ip from my dsl provider going to waste. Activate Zope logging: "STUPID_LOG_FILE=<your log file>" Restart Zope and tell us what you see in your log file (if you do not understand it by yourself). Dieter

Not to mention that we 're both from the Netherlands, have exactly the same problems. Weird was the first thing that came to my mind ;)

I copied data.fs from Win95 to Win98 to WinNt to WinMe without problems (mainly Zope 2.1.6, but the data.fs should be backward compatible). We have also a Win2000 machine running Zope but we never copied a data.fs to that thing. Did Zope start before you copied the data.fs? Have you tried to export and import your sites/folders? Have you tried to copy the whole website directory from one machine to the other? How large is your data.fs? Henny
